Cochlear Implant Information For ENT Surgeons | Attune Hearing

Surgeons

The relationship between an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon and their Audiologist is possibly the most critical relationship in the implant process.

Since 1992, Attune Hearing has managed over 500 patients in our cochlear implant program. Many of these patients are still involved with the program today in some capacity due to the ongoing support and care we provide. Our senior cochlear implant audiologist and manager of the cochlear implant program, Karen Pedley, has been facilitating the process for patients since the inception of the program and possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in all areas of cochlear implants.

Our industry-leading medical alliance and highly comprehensive implant program are the reasons why so many surgeons choose to partner with Attune.

Our goal at Attune is to allow our team of Ear, Nose and Throat surgeons to perform surgery confidently, safely and successfully, knowing that they are being provided with every relevant detail to ensure the patient is receiving the best support and care possible at this stage of the implant journey.

Our team of highly experienced audiologists and Ear, Nose and Throat surgeons aim to make the surgical process as smooth and straightforward as possible. We do this by providing an in-depth analysis of the patient’s current hearing loss along with any medical conditions, educating the patient and their loved ones so that they understand the probable surgery outcomes and what to expect, working with the patient to determine which device is going to be most suited to their lifestyle and needs and most importantly, we have a postoperative rehabilitation program in place that encompasses the necessary support and auditory training to help the patient reach their full potential with their implant. Our team of surgeons, psychologists and audiologists take a tailored approach to every patient and conduct periodic clinical meetings where each case is discussed and reviewed in-depth, along with any industry updates or developments. This maximises program outcomes and provides a platform to ensure each implant staff member remains at the forefront of the industry.

There are so many questions raised when determining eligibility for an implant; what are the referral indicators that determine which implant and device type is right for the patient, what post-surgery support and training is provided, and what is the nature of the patient’s lifestyle and relationship with technology? Our highly skilled cochlear implant audiologists are able to provide the long-term support and training these patients need.

Attune Hearing was founded on a medical model with a strong focus on the critical relationship between audiologists and surgeons. In 2014, Attune Hearing Pty Ltd was awarded Quality Innovation Performance (QIP) accreditation, which is the same accreditation awarded to General Practitioners. This accreditation provides a strong statement about the level of care and expertise that Attune Hearing provides, as we are the only independent hearing healthcare provider in Australia that has been awarded.
